She loved her little yellow Volkswagen, when you saw it coming you knew it was Martha.
Martha graduated Lattimore HS, NC, in 1942 and came North at age 17. She worked for the War Department as a Radio Engineering Aide in the Signal Corps; trained at Fort Monmouth and assigned to Detroit, MI Signal Laboratory. Martha was as “extra” in the movie The Pope of Greenwich Village. If you look closely she’s coming down the escalator at Monmouth Race Track. Her net pay was $34.97! In addition, she had a Monmouth Race Track horse named after her, Marvelous Martha, by Basil Plasteras, then owner of the Squires Pub.
You could spot Martha with her friend Gloria at Burger King’s Bouncy Hut watching her great-grandson play.
Martha loved being involved in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. Each having special memories with Mom Mom that are theirs alone. She was quick to smile and have a good time.
To remember Martha (Mom Mom) is to remember warmth and open arms.
