Douglas C. Horan, 93, of Eatontown passed away on December 13, 2021. Douglas was born in Long Branch to Francis and Viola (Belge) Horan and was raised in Highlands. He resided in Middletown before moving to Eatontown 56 years ago.
He earned his BS degree in Physical Education from Seton Hall University and then his Masters in Education from NYU.
Douglas honorably served our country overseas in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post #1000.
His career spanned many years including serving as Vice Principal at Point Road School in Little Silver, Principal at Markham School in Little Silver and Memorial School in Eatontown, Superintendent at Spring Lake Heights Elementary School and most recently as a substitute teacher at Rumson Fair Haven High School. As a lifelong educator, Doug was very happy to teach at RFH and the family expresses gratitude to the entire faculty and student body.
He was longtime communicant of and Eucharistic Minister for the Church of St. Anselm in Wayside, NJ.
Douglas is predeceased by his parents, in 1977 by his daughter, Erin, in 2010 by his loving wife of 57 years, Teresa “Terry”, in 2013 by his daughter, Tara, and in 2018 by his son-in-law, William Ruddy and by his brothers, Frank and The Honorable Ronald L. Horan.
He is survived by his son, Douglas M. Horan and his companion, Beth Serafi, of Asbury Park, sister-in-law, Casey Francis and husband Hal Abramowitz of Eatontown, granddaughter, Meghan Ruddy of Tinton Falls, his great-grandchildren, Mason and Conner, as well as, his nephew, Ron Horan and wife Teresa of Navesink.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 17th from 1-4pm at the Braun Funeral Home, 106 Broad St. Eatontown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of St. Anselm, 1028 Wayside Road Wayside, on Sat. Dec. 18th at 11am followed by burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
