Neil Gordon Halvorsen
February 9, 1939 to October 16, 2017

It is with heavy heart that we announce his passing. Born in Brooklyn, he moved to NJ as a youngster, residing in Eatontown for the last 50 years. He is predeceased by his son Brett and survived by his wife of 56 years Marilyn, son Kevin and daughters-in-law Marilou and Colleen. Proud Pappy to Eric, Sami, Devin, Kelsey, Liam, Conrad and Brenda. He is Unc to many nieces and nephews. Following his graduation from Red Bank High in 1956, he joined the US Marine Corp. Once a Marine, always a Marine. Gordon loved his family dearly and loved nothing better than being involved with the children and their activities. He deserves the title of #1 fan. Regardless of the sport or activity, he was there to cheer them on. The Sunday Cigar League had a special place in his heart - fathers and sons enjoying time together. He was involved with the Big Brother Organization for seven years and was named Big Brother of the year in 1995. Time spent with his Little Brother, Bob Abbott was special. He volunteered at the Central Jersey Blood Bank and made 128 blood donations. Many weekends were spent with friends playing Hearts at Takanassee Beach Club. An avid sports fan, he loved coaching as well as participating. Go Giants and Yanks! He will be missed, but certainly not forgotten. Family and friends may visit Friday, 3-7pm at the Braun Funeral Home, 106 Broad Street, Eatontown. Funeral Service Saturday, 10:00am at the funeral home, followed by burial at the Shrewsbury Presbyterian Cemetery in Shrewsbury. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Gordon’s memory through “In Memory Of” for the benefit of the American Cancer Society at www.inmemoryof-memorial.org.
